Brown was successful in Australian racing and moved to the United States in the mid-1970s to race in Formula 5000 after winning the 1975 Tasman series. He joined the Wolf Williams team for the 1976 United States Grand Prix, standing in for the injured Chris Amon. He continued to race with much success in Formula 5000.
